Sports Hall in Cacine
Why is it needed?
What is its purpose?
We aim to provide young people with an additional opportunity
alongside education:
- To work together with local workers to share the Gospel with the young people who attend
- To improve their quality of life both physically and mentally
- To create job opportunities:
• During the construction phase
• For operations and maintenance
• Hiring paid, trained coaches and teachers - To broaden opportunities
- To work together with local workers to share the Gospel with the young people who attend
How will it be used?
The sports hall will be built on the campus of Escola Betel, where
nearly 800 students currently study. Initially, students will have
the choice of four different sports, which will later operate in an
academy format.
In addition to sports activities, the venue will host events for the
school and the village, such as:
- Sports championships between nearby and more distant
villages - Conferences and teacher/instructor training sessions
- Celebrations such as Christmas, school openings and
closings, graduation ceremonies, etc.
Where is it located?
Cacine is located in the southern part of Guinea-Bissau, a small West
African country. As a former Portuguese colony, the people here
have endured much suffering and still carry many wounds to this
day. Our goal is to help bring about change and show a path toward
a better future.
Who is building it?
The construction is being organized by the BGO Foundation,
involving teams from Hungary traveling to the site and collaborating
with local experts.

Budget
- Estimated cost: 800 000 USD,100% from donations
- The schedule for construction is heavily influenced by the arrival of donations and weather conditions.
- Construction can mostly only take place during the dry season. One significant challenge is that during the rainy season, road conditions prevent
the transportation of construction materials.
Planned Schedule
First dry season
(November 2024 – May 2025)
- Site preparation, land leveling,
- creating a secure storage area for materials,
- foundation point preparation.
Second dry season
(November 2025 – May 2026)
- Container reception (September),
- strip foundation work,
- steel structure installation, roofing.
Third dry season
(November 2026 – May 2027)
- Bleachers,
- service areas (changing rooms, restrooms, medical room, equipment storage),
- concrete work for the playing area and walkways,
- water and electrical installations, painting,
- final touches.
