Foundation for Education in Guinea-Bissau

Our next project

The sports hall

Why is it needed and what is our goal?

The sports hall is not just a building – it is an opportunity for young people to develop, find community, and gain hope for the future.

Our goal is to create a place, in addition to education, where:

  • 🏀 We work with local people to introduce students to the word of God,
  • 💪 they can develop physically and mentally while playing sports and studying,
  • 👷 We create jobs for the community:
     during construction,
operation and maintenance of the hall,
by creating coaching and teaching positions.

The sports hall will therefore not only serve the development of young people, but will also open up new opportunities for the entire community - and will be a place where the message of the gospel can also reach those who visit.

What will the sports hall be used for?

The sports hall is being built on the grounds of Escola Betel, which currently has nearly 800 students. Initially, young people will be able to choose from four different sports, and the facility is planned to also function as a sports academy in the long term.

In addition, the hall serves as an important community space, providing space for:

  • 🏆 for sports matches – for teams from local and nearby villages,
  • 🎤 for conferences, teacher and trainer training – to create even more development opportunities by sharing knowledge and experience,
  • 🎉 school and village community events, such as:
    • year-openers and year-ends,
    • graduations,
    • Christmas and other celebrations.

The sports hall will therefore not only serve the development of students, but will also become a new meeting point for the entire community, enriching their lives with sports, education, and community events.

Where is the sports hall located?

The sports hall is being built in Cacine, in the southern part of Guinea-Bissau, a small West African country.

Guinea-Bissau was a Portuguese colony for many years and the people living here have experienced a lot of suffering. The wounds of the past are still felt today, but we believe that together we can make a difference. Our goal is to show hope and a brighter future to the local community, where sport and education can serve as tools for development.

Who builds it?

The construction is BGO Foundation is being organized by the Hungarian and international volunteer teams, as well as local experts. This joint work not only helps to realize the sports hall, but also creates jobs in the region and strengthens community cooperation.

Budget and scheduling

  • 🏗 Estimated cost: 300 million forints – financed entirely by donations.
  • The construction schedule is significantly influenced by the arrival of donations and weather conditions. Since construction work in the region can only be carried out during the dry season, the rainy season poses serious challenges.
  • 🌧 One of the biggest challenges is that during the rainy season, the condition of the roads often makes it impossible to transport construction materials, so planning ahead and securing the right resources in a timely manner is key to the success of the project.
  • The realization of the sports hall is our common cause - every support brings us closer to the goal.
